ABSTRACT

Location: Westernmost of the Cycladic Islands, thirteen miles southeast of the Attic promontory. Cape Colonna (Sounion). Keos is fourteen miles long from north to south, ten miles wide from east to west, and peaks in the center, at Profitis Ilias. As in ancient times, Keos's principal cities and population are concentrated in the north, in Chora (ancient Ioulis), and Livadi (ancient Koressos). The site of ancient Poieessa and Karthaia are on Keos's southwestern and southeastern coasts.
