ABSTRACT
On the Mediterranean coast of Egypt; 130 miles northwest of Cairo and 35 miles west of the mouth of the Rosetta branch of the Nile River. It stands on a narrow strip of land that divides the sea to the north from Lake Mareotis to the south, and on a T-shaped peninsula, with harbors to both east and west.
