ABSTRACT
The history of Latin American science is still a young discipline; only barely institutionalized, it is, however, dynamic and with good prospects for the immediate future. For example, the Latin American Society for the History of Science and Technology (SLHCT) was set up in 1982, and held its first conference in Havana in 1985. The first issue of its journal, Quipu, appeared in 1984, and this is the main reference work available to any reader interested in the subject, and a good indication of the work by leading experts in the field.
