Writings about the Trombone in Eighteenth-Century Treatises, Encyclopedias, and Dictionaries

Throughout the eighteenth century, musicians wrote descriptions of the trombone. None wrote in sufficient detail that a history of the trombone in the eighteenth century could be written on the basis of these writings alone, but they are nonetheless an invaluable source of information. Every work cited by later writers, including later eighteenth-century writers, has been sought for inclusion in this chapter. Inevitably, some important documents are lacking.
