ABSTRACT

Before leaving Athens the author received a request for an interview from an American about whom he knew nothing. He showed me an announcement for the coming season of the "Greek Theatre, Griffith Park, Los Angeles", and pointed out his own name: "Ed. Perkins, Managing Director". He had come to Athens to engage some Greek singer for his Season, and, while visiting the Acropolis, he had seen a great crowd of people in the street below, all moving in the same direction: his curiosity aroused to know where they were going, he had come down from the Acropolis and followed them round a turn in the road. The archaeologists agreed to this in a general way, and saw the necessity of immediate action in regard to saving the site from further encroachments.
