ABSTRACT
Very broad councils of arbitration for the spiritual encounter of all peoples of the earth, and similar extensive institutions for Greece: such as spiritual and athletic contests, the equality of political rights for men and women, the emancipation of slaves, and so forth. There are Greeks all over the world, men who dwell in the Greek spirit wherever they were born, and the Delphic Idea is not confined to one point in space. So, in music, the Greeks either kept the secret of their infinite melodic sequences and varieties, or the Romans were too dull to understand them. But presently, some one of the higher priests of the order discovered that the strangers were speaking Greek, and immediately they were advanced to the highest grade of initiation. Greece, which invented democracy, was consumed by it. The ancient Greeks were not exclusively or even especially concerned with physical beauty.
