ABSTRACT

Chicoutimi is ‘the Frenchest part of North America’, with over 99 percent of the population French-speaking. The University of Quebec at Chicoutimi has an open admissions policy, accepting anybody over 22. As a result, the English programme is host to a number of mature students who have picked up a considerable amount of English while working in anglophone provinces. In addition, we have had in the past a contingent of college-leavers who may or may not have taken English in their two years in college. As you can imagine, the needs of such a heterogeneous group of students are extremely varied. This paper describes how CALL is used to meet the needs of such a group.
