ABSTRACT

The community served by the Midtown Community Court was broadly defined by the Court’s planners as including community members (leaders, residents, merchants); local criminal justice professionals (senior criminal justice officials, judges, attorneys, court clerks, court officers, CJA personnel and local police); and defendants. This chapter examines expectations for and perceptions of court operations and case outcomes at the Midtown Community Court among these various groups. It examines three areas: hopes and expectations for the Court, including the criteria proposed for assessing its success; perceptions of court procedures and case outcomes; and key differences among respondent groups in attitudes toward the Court and its response to low-level offenses.
