Presence or Puppeteering book
There is the presence of the cobra; an aggrandizement of its being-designed to fascinate and finally to destroy the object of its gaze. Then there is the Navajo's ability to be there without being seen, to move with leaving a trace, or to crouch, immobile in the undergrowth. To eat without being eaten oneself necessitates an aesthetic of invisibility. Many animals marry their background and seem to blend into the distance by dint of their countershading or by their resemblance to natural objects of no food-interest to their enemies.
