ABSTRACT
In this chapter we shall discuss factors apart from formal organisation which may have influenced the findings. In particular, we shall be con cerned with some of the broader differences between the British and American labour movements, and to a lesser extent with historical and contextual factors within each country which may have influenced electoral competition.
