ABSTRACT
The future of unionism is inseparable from the future of organised society. Our discussion will focus first on the implications of our findings in terms of the theory of organisations, and then more extensively on the possible future for democracy in unions engaged in collective bargaining in a capital ist society of the welfare state variety. Finally, we shall also comment briefly on the possible place of unions under democratic socialism.
