ABSTRACT

Experimental social innovation differs from most other forms of social problem solution because of the responsibility which must be assumed by the researchers on a 24-hour basis for the lives and welfare of participants in the experimental subsystems. This is not the only difference (Fair-weather, 1967, p. 20), but it is an important one. Both for that reason and because of legal and humane considerations, arrangements were necessary to insure the health and general medical welfare of the men at the lodge.
