ABSTRACT
The combined arrival on the scene of the two lay coordinators and the two new members (Mr. March and Mr. Porter) initially was accompanied by an improvement in the performance of all crew chiefs. For example, Mr. Miller, the most adequate of the gardening crew chiefs, felt that he was the equal of the new lay coordinators and, as a consequence, became a better leader himself. Thus a rise in morale accompanied the arrival of the lay leaders at the lodge because the men felt more comfortable with the two lay leaders than they had with all previous professional coordinators.
