ABSTRACT

A L L T H A T has been said i n the previous chapter about psychiatrists and their culture or habits of thought has been i n a sense static. Tha t is, i t has been stated that psychiatrists hold certain ideas about energy, about coercion and control, success, normality, and so on; and these ideas have been described as interrelated i n a structured system. But the element of t ime and change has been disregarded. The immediate task is to draw these remarks about psychiatric th ink ing together in to a statement of over-all change.
