In some of these areas experimental work may be carried out independently by the psychologist. But in most areas collaborative work with psychiatrists, neurologists, physiologists, internists, and other specialists is a necessity in order to obtain the most productive use of the material and to make the most meaningful advances (Shakow, 1949c).
