ABSTRACT
The ultimate source of practically all of the energy for all physical and biological processes occuring on Earth is solar radiation. The importance of radiation to agronomy is best stated in a definition by Monteith (1958) that agriculture is an exploitation of solar energy, made possible by an adequate supply of water and nutrients to maintain plant growth.
