ABSTRACT
The usefulness of water balance as a means of estimating soil moisture does not mean that the method alone is adequate for intelligent irrigation and water resources planning. Another key to the problem is the understanding of the relationship between water and yield. At what moisture status should irrigation be applied in order to obtain the maximum yield? What would be the yield loss if water application is inadequate?
