ABSTRACT

The statistical bureaus and the departments of agriculture and forestry at the provincial level were in turn required to prepare reports on the basis of returns from hsien and then to submit them to the State Bureau. Annual statistical reports on agricultural production, which presented a summary of agricultural production, were the most important of all regular schedules. Consolidated statistical reports on agricultural production, which were initiated in 1953 by the State Statistical Bureau in nationally standardized form, provided the major source of basic data on agricultural production. The statistical estimation of agricultural land was begun in 1956, when the statistical reports on agricultural production were initiated. The gross value of agricultural output is the monetary manifestation of total agricultural production. Agricultural commodity production indicates the total amount of agricultural products available for consumption, export, and industrial processing.
