ABSTRACT

In general, four types of transportation statistics can be distinguished: railways, highways, water transport, and civil air transport. Highway and water transport enterprises employing modern means of transportation are under the control of the Ministry of Transportation. Statistics relating to civil air transportation are compiled by the Bureau of Civil Aviation. The gross value of communication output refers to the value of the work performed by independent post and tele-communications enterprises for materially productive sectors. There are a variety of business activities in post and tele-communications, and the output of these activities cannot be measured in terms of a common physical unit. Like industrial and agricultural statistics, the major source of transportation data is the system of regular statistical schedules. Statistics relating to civil air transportation are compiled by the Bureau of Civil Aviation. Major indicators include freight transportation, passenger transportation, mail transportation, and the services rendered to industrial and agricultural production.
