ABSTRACT

As you’ve seen in some examples earlier and will see more prevalently moving forward throughout this book, much of the lack of access to education falls on those living in poverty, many of whom are black or Latino. And since so much of our current gridlock on education has its history rooted in the racial tensions of our country’s past, I would be remiss if I did not share some of this history from my perspective: that of a boy growing up in the 1960s and 1970s coming to grips with America’s racial and educational disparities.
