ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines in depth what lies behind the drive for virtuous empire and what are its ultimate objectives. It explores the transformation of the American mind and character and how it has contributed to the outward quest. The purpose is to make possible a more well-informed and focused discussion of major trends within today's Western civilization and politics. The change within American and Western society as a whole ultimately involves a new view of man, society, and the world and has palpable political, moral, cultural, and intellectual manifestations. Western civilization is being redefined and reorganized in the light of approaches to life that are much different from those that gave rise to the same civilization in the first place. Much of that work is pioneered in the United States by persons whose ultimate dream is to preside over American empire.
