ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the emerging world of personal development activities. The Universities of the Third Age which provide lifelong learning opportunities for older adults largely free of work and family responsibilities are pioneers in personal development education. New School University in New York City is a pioneer in late adult education in the United States. The Super longevity Revolution will serve as a big boost for organizations requiring many person-hours of unpaid labor. People who will either be on career hiatuses or are actually transitioning to full retirement will provide the organizations a veritable army of volunteers. Many Westerners use meditation to reduce stress — brokers and others working in high pressure environments have signed on to meditation training programs. Corporations such as Google, Deutsche Bank, Hughes Aircraft, Tower Co., a Washington-based development firm, as well as many other organizations offer meditation classes to their workers.
