ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the dynamic nature of the growing support for humans living a very long life. The super longevity industry includes the companies and laboratories attempting to make use of stem cells. These are cells in the body that have the amazing capacity to develop into many different cell types in the body. Cryonics is the preservation of legally dead human beings or pets at very low temperature in a state that will be viable and treatable by future science. The two major players in the cryonics fields are the Alcor Life Extension Foundation and the Cryonics Institute. Oxford Bioscience Partners (OPB) is heavily bankrolled, with close to a billion dollars in capital committed to various ventures. OPB specifically targets start-up and early-stage, entrepreneurial-driven companies in the bioscience and health-care industries. The American Association of Anti-Aging Medicine is one of the leading organizations involved in certifying and training physicians and health-care professionals in the anti-aging field.
