ABSTRACT

In the past, history has concerned itself with the military exploits of distinguished brigands; today history concerns itself with the amatory exploits of psychopathic personalities. No one can foresee the history of tomorrow. But in all ages, history has been an exercise in the study of values. Campo Formio, Moscow, Leipzig are starred in the old textbooks; Josephine, Maria Louisa, Countess Walewski share the honors in the new ones. Yet the mystery of how the stout little Corsican, who was weaned by his mother, spanked by his father, and educated by his priest, gained the throne of France is still unsolved. History remains an eternal mystery.
