ABSTRACT

All the vast scheme upon heavenly bodies had been so riveted into the Ptolemaic view by the use of biblical texts and theological reasonings that the resultant system of the universe was considered impregnable and final. Contrarily, there had been planted the germs of a heliocentric theory. Ten years after the martyrdom of Giordano Bruno the truth of Copernicus's doctrine was established by the telescope of Galileo. Galileo's discoveries had clearly taken the Copernican theory out of the list of hypotheses, and had placed it before the world as a truth. The author details the warfare happened upon Galileo, the victory of the Church over Galileo, and the results of victory over Galileo and finally the retreat of the Church from the Galileo case in this chapter. The chapter finally concludes with all theories the notion that nothing is more unjust than to cast especial blame for all this resistance to science upon the Roman Church.
