ABSTRACT

After P.T. the next morning, the corps clusters briefly outside the Fed for a few announcements before we break into teams for our first full day of service. Tony chooses a space for us to meet on the plaza and we gather around in a circle as he hands out a one-page "Corpsmember Briefing Document." The photocopied document offers directions to the Virginia-Monadnock Garden as well as a description of the project. Our project sponsor, it says, will be the Virginia-Monadnock Neighborhood Association. Their role, like that of all of the nonprofit organizations that sponsor City Year projects, is to set up the work tasks and to provide tools, general supervision, and technical assistance.
