ABSTRACT
This chapter attempts to examine some of the more discrete folk-styles as they were perceived during the period, those associated with national and regional areas. One of the problems with the use of the description 'national' here, however, is that it was applied both very generally and very particularly. The term was most often used to draw attention to the fact that a folk song was included in a particular piece.
