ABSTRACT
A Hawaiian prayer-song transfers to the heavens the effects of drinking kava: "The Pleiades are becoming drowsy with the effects of kava. / They are drunk, drowsy, dizzy" (after Titcomb 1948:125). When stars get drunk on kava, humans can enjoy it all the more. — L A M O N T LlNDSTROM
