ABSTRACT
Since the 1960s or before, the local radio station has played tapes made by groups of youths from around Chuuk who compete to have their songs aired. Groups of unmarried young men (aluek anuon in Chuuk), between the ages of about twelve and twenty-five, sing akindkun in falsetto, accompanying themselves on guitars or ukuleles, or on combinations of those.
