ABSTRACT

The metric has been developed to assist team facilitators to assess their own skills and plan a personal development programme. This chapter provides a methodical framework for assessing the competencies of a team facilitator. It also provides a conceptual model that identifies the competencies of a team facilitator. The facilitator who is seeking to review their skills should work through the audit circling one number for each of the items. The facilitator finds an experienced person to act as a counsellor and review their score and identify any patterns. A decision should be made as to what new or improved competencies the facilitator needs to acquire. Facilitation takes place in an organizational context. It is important to gain support from opinion leaders in the organization for participation in facilitating team-building activities. The competent facilitator is able to respond flexibly to teams and the changing dynamics team-building sessions.
