ABSTRACT
References follow the form bar number, part number (counting down from top), symbol number (including rests and tied notes). Accidentals are considered to belong to the note to which they are attached so are not given a separate symbol number. Where the comment refers to a mark occurring before the first symbol in the bar, the symbol number is given as 0. Where the comment refers to a mark occurring between two symbols, an ’x’ is placed between the symbols (so 2x3 means between the second and third symbols in the part). Where the comment refers to more than one symbol, a dash is used to join those symbols (so 2-4 means symbols 2 to 4 inclusive).
