ABSTRACT

Violence is reaching critical proportions in industrialized cities and suburbs through­ out the United States. Increasingly commonplace and even accepted as a fact of life in America, this phenomena deserves focused attention. The study of conflict along with meth­ ods for remediating and mitigating its effects has played a central role in the development of emergency and disaster medicine and their related disciplines. Indeed, conflict disaster is recognized among the classifications of disaster as a major phenotype.
