ABSTRACT
In the new millennium, there is a vital need to promote sustainable production and consumption, shifting steadily towards a position where each country is living within its available environmental space by the middle of the 21st century. This will require dramatic change in Northern consumption habits and values, a reassessment of North-South relationships based on the equity principle, and a revision of the policy framework of multi and bilateral aid and technical assistance towards a mutually beneficial agenda for sustainable development.
