ABSTRACT

The first time I saw Mother I was out at the side of the road picking strawberries. I heard a waggon comming & I thought it was Mother Ann. Altho no one had been expecting her previously. I immediately left my imployment & followed the Wagon & pulled down the bars to let her through & followed the wagon to the house Mother dismounted & went to the door & exclaimed Where is the old man. This was grandfather Meacham who visited mother in Prison & opened his mind. He soon came to the door & let her in This was her first visit at Enfield. This was in June 1781. She took off her things & called for some water to wash. Those who accompanied her were Father William Lee Father James / Whitekar, Elder John Partington, Elder John Hocknell, Joseph Meacham, Samuel Fitch, Molly Partington, & Margaret Leeland. 1 After dinner Mother walked into a room & sat down by herself. I went in & kneeled down before her & told her I had called her a Witch & wished she was shot with a piece of silver. What made you call me so said she want it becaus you have heared others say so. I told her I did not know. Well it was said she & I can forgive you & pray God to forgive you. Get up child. have you any Parents I answered yea. You have a step Mother have you not. I said I have a mother in law. well that is a step mother. She said considerable respecting her & related sircumstances which I knew was revealed to her by the gift of God. Mother & the Elders tarried a number of days & many people came to visit them. One man observed that / Mothers singing sounded louder to him than any clap of thunder which he ever heard in his life. The world began to oppose Mother & thretened if they were not gone by such a time, they would carry them off by forse. Mother thought it wisdom to leave as the world were so bitter & constantly watching to see if they were going to leave at the appointed time.
