When Mother was at Jabez Spencer’s ¹ / in Stephentown, great numbers of people collected there, both the believers and the world. The wicked were greatly enraged, and some of them got into the house, and began to use violence to the believers. One of this ungodly company seized Eliab Harlow ² by his throat; but Jabez unclenched the ruffians’ hands, took the government of his own house, cleared it of this persecuting band, and kept them out! But as the wicked were unwilling to desitt desist from their abuse to an innocent people, they brought a false accusation against her {Ann Lee} which was evidently intended to justify them in their intended abuse to her, as will hereafter appear.
