ABSTRACT

I saw Mother at Eleazer Grant’s, where she had been carried by a riotous mob, & where her enemies afterwards reported that she was drunk. I there saw the shameful abuse which she suffered. I there saw a man strike her twice, with his cane. I also saw two ruffians dragged her from Grant’s new house to his old one, pinching & abusing her all the way, & then back again in the same manner, / untill at length she cried out, “must I give up my life in your hands?” The behavior of some of the mob, that day, to the females that followed Mother, was too shamefully indecent & rapacious to be described. And yet some of these same filthy wretches afterwards had the impudence, falsely & unjustly to charge <indecency upon> Mother.
