ABSTRACT

My parents belonged to a religious society called New Lights in the town of Preston in Conn. This society had seperated from the Presbyterians, & were firm believers in the second coming of Christ, which they considered as near at hand. This was frequently the subject of discourse among them. I well remember when quite young of hearing much said about the glorious day that was coming, & I felt a great desire that I might live to see it. I often read in the New Testament about Jesus Christ; how he was persecuted by the wicked because he spoke the truth to them. I thot if I could ever see such a day, I would embrace it.
