ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the case study of Jane. Jane had been made redundant as a result of structural reorganization. Although the period of re-organization had caused her some stress, there was much about the job that she loved. Visualizing the end of the ritual seemed to give her clarity about the structure. Jane went away with a clear structure in mind, and the tasks of writing her story and a prayer for lighting the candle, and choosing some music. In the story she introduced the image of the shell which she had decided to use as a symbol later on in the ritual. This has felt like a painful stripping of an outer shell which had protected me as the animal inside in lots of ways. The ritual is one part of a process of letting go, gathering strength, moving on, and finding a new beginning, which has created a sense of empowerment for Jane.
