ABSTRACT

Socialist nations differ in their historical, political, and economic circumstances. Their population numbers, densities, and rates of growth are also different. Therefore, the application of the law of socialist human reproduction for planned population growth takes on concrete forms that are necessarily diverse. According to Marxist theory concerning the relationship between population growth and socialist development, even though population growth does not determine societal development, it can accelerate or slow it down. Planned population growth must take into account the concrete circumstances in different regions and among different nationalities and adopt different requirements and methods. Marxist population theory not only is opposed to capitalist population theory, but is also opposed to the Malthusian theory of population control. Neo- and old Malthusian theories of population control are built only on the so-called "law of diminishing returns from land," and on the subjective, arbitrary conclusion that the increase in the means of livelihood cannot keep up with population growth.
