WHEN some years had passed, as the above author tells us in reporting the account by Datius, archbishop of Milan, people suffered from such a pinching scarcity of grain in his diocese that, apart from much filth and disgusting stuff being eaten, a woman was discovered who, driven by hunger, did not refrain from consuming the flesh of her own son.
