LEAVING out several kinds of ships which in their shape almost correspond with those of other countries in whatever waters you please, J but differ in the names given by their nations, I shall speak here only of those which are denoted and generally known by a comparatively common title, for instance, frigates, merchantmen, pinnaces, skiffs, etc.1 Names of ships Horse-transports are very large and numerous owing to the great number of horses that have to be taken from the North overseas to Germany.2
