TO repel enemy vessels from a coast where Nature has left a harbour or a fairly deep inlet, the first task is for everyone to set his hand to the erection of a very strong wall of stone without mortar; alternatively a line of wooden defence works is set in the ground, suitable for use by archers or gunners.1
