ABSTRACT

AN illustration has been added here of the appliances used in the art of swimming and how people train with blown-up skins or bladders, or on packs of light, spongy reeds. With these, boys and young men, before they come to riper years, may take greater pleasure when they plunge into water and exercise themselves there. Otherwise perhaps, as the years pass silently by, they may remain ignorant of these skills and not have the ability to rescue either themselves or others from imminent danger of death.
