ABSTRACT

ALTHOUGH conducting war and making peace concern the prince /% more than anyone else, so that deliberation over difficult decisions-A and their execution may be effected opportunely, yet, as we see nowadays, the most awkward problems in war and peace are resolved in one way or another with the help of loyal governors. These men are considered more foresighted and useful, both to their lords and to the state, the readier they are to arrange a truce in cases where a firm, lasting peace cannot be established.
