ABSTRACT

THE attached illustration shows, to a limited extent, the tools employed by northern farmers, although where such vast tracts are concerned it is not easy to supply pictures of all the implements. To prepare the land for sowing, stony ground is made ready in one way, clayey soil in another, soft, marshy soil in another, mountain land differently again with ploughshares1and hoes, and, as the seasons change, so also do the tools.
