ABSTRACT

GÖTAR, particularly the Vastgotar, mainly consume barley bread, which is baked by their skilful and diligent women, for in the whole of the North it is only women who make bread. From eating this so much toughness and strength is acquired that a more vigorous folk could scarcely be found in all the northern lands, except the Finnings, or Finns, who feed on similar bread, including that made from rye.1
