ABSTRACT

IT has never been possible to set out satisfactorily the great mischiefs which have been caused to the world through drunkenness, either on this little page, or for that matter in the volumes of weighty writers; and no wonder, since such ingenuities have been discovered, over and above the generous qualities offered by wine, that by altering the liquor artificially and by adding hot spices an unquenchable desire for drinking is aroused in a man.
