ABSTRACT
AS far as the skill of painting is concerned there are few choice or eminent artists in all the North, not because they are thought to lack talent, but because they are not trained to the art. Certain men, however, are so vigorously endowed with natural gifts that, by the unadorned simplicity of their pictures, they as it were demonstrate and illuminate in the clearest way the essentials of events and of objects.1
