ABSTRACT

THERE are extremely serious trials when the charge is one of lesemajesty, betrayal of princes and their domains, arson of public property, counterfeiting currency, matters concerning boundaries of land and possessions, the rape of virgins, and similar actions, which are plainly covered by the provincial laws of those regions under the heading called in the vernacular, Epsôre, in case such hideous crimes should remain unpunished through a deficiency in legal provision and its execution.1
