ABSTRACT
THE opening of the illustrious statutes of our forefathers, handed on under the name of national and provincial laws to successive ages and generations,1 lays it down in a preface that the inhabitants who are to choose a king in Sweden, councillors, nobles, and delegates from all the provinces, communities, and cities in that realm, shall be obliged to assemble in the archipiscopal city of Uppsala.
